Arab American Association of New York
On a cold, blustery November morning, 140 women from gathered at the Beit al-Maqdis Islamic Center in Brooklyn to air their grievances. Since the presidential election, the Arab American community in South Brooklyn has experienced increased harassment and hostility from anti-Muslim and Islamophobic community members.
Adhikaar, meaning "Rights" in Nepali, is a powerful community of activists, organizers, and community members. Its boisterous red facade jumps out on a quiet Woodside block, and reflects the energy of its members. Inside, dozens of Nepali immigrants are receiving services, learning English, getting legal help, and using the space for community support.
Tomorrow is the presidential election - but for New Yorkers, it's also the election for U.S. Senate and House, State Senate and Assembly, and Municipal, Civil, and Supreme Court justices.

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) has announced that fee increases for many applications will take effect December 23, 2016. Prices will go up an average of 21% on that date, but the increases vary widely by the type of application.
