Since February of 2017, the NYIC has been hosting meetings with a diverse set of groups to strategize on federal immigration advocacy, an initiative titled the “Defend Our New York” (DONY). DONY creates a space for new collaboration and information-sharing between organizations engage with immigration issues.
The group includes members and partners, as well as intersectional allies who focus on reproductive justice, racial justice, criminal justice, and climate change. Within the DONY group, we have also created topic specific working groups to foster collaboration with other organizations. These working groups focus on the following topics: the Muslim/refugee ban, working with labor partners, healthcare, DACA, rapid response, family and business immigration, and resisting the deportation force.
