For decades, immigrant communities have faced ongoing challenges that have tested their resilience, as they continue to confront sustained attacks on their dignity and rights. As we face the next four years under a racist and xenophobic federal administration that will intensify anti-immigrant rhetoric and policies nationwide, we recognize how critical the NYIC’s fight for immigrant rights at the state level is.
To achieve true equity, opportunity, and inclusion for immigrant New Yorkers, we have created Empire State Rising: A Blueprint for Immigrant Progress and Justice, an ambitious ten-year roadmap to enhance the rights and opportunities of all New Yorkers, so everyone, regardless of immigration status, can thrive. This Blueprint outlines our vision of shared prosperity for all, presenting a clear path to welcome newcomers, advance climate justice, and tackle critical policy priorities in five key areas essential to immigrant communities: ending state support for deportation and detention, building political power, ensuring quality education, promoting economic justice, and fostering healthy communities.
Building on the NYIC’s history of success, as well as extensive consultations with immigrant-led and immigrant-serving community organizations throughout the state, Empire State Rising aims to provide community-driven solutions to the challenges faced by immigrant New Yorkers by providing specific policy, legislative, and funding solutions that require bold action and long-term commitment. With a vision of New York as a leader for our nation and a model for immigrant-driven progress, the NYIC is working to reshape the state’s future with justice, equity, and opportunity at the forefront, where immigrants are empowered to contribute fully to the state’s growth and success.
