Health coverage and care are critical for every family. When everyone has access to affordable, quality health care, we are all healthier, safer, and stronger. With our partners and allies, we’re fighting for #Coverage4All, to provide state-funded health insurance coverage for the 400,000 undocumented New Yorkers who currently do not qualify for any federal- or state-funded comprehensive coverage.
Our campaign is led by a coalition of community members, community organizations, health care providers, legal service providers, and labor, immigrant, and health care consumer advocates. Our objective is to create a statewide health insurance product for New Yorkers who are excluded from eligibility for coverage because of their immigration status, starting with those most directly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Healthcare and COVID-19
Immigrants make up one-third of New York’s essential workforce—and despite risking their lives to keep our communities fed and cared for, thousands don’t have access to health insurance because of their immigration status.
We can’t protect New Yorkers from COVID-19 and its economic impact if we deny health care to the communities at the front of the fight. We’re fighting to pass the COVID Temporary Essential Plan Eligibility Bill (A1585/S2549), which would extend coverage to all low-income undocumented New Yorkers who have had COVID-19.
