New York—Today, the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC), elected officials, member organizations, impacted individuals and immigrant New Yorkers held a press conference at Mixteca to launch the Working Families Tax Credit 2024 NYS Legislative Campaign.

Washington, D.C.—Today, the New York Immigration Coalition, alongside 150 New York immigrant advocates and impacted people, headed to Washington, D.C., and rallied with national and local organizations to urge President Biden, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, and the U.S. Senate to protect immigrant communities and reject anti-immigrant proposals from being included in the $116 million supplemental aid package for Ukraine.

New York, NY—Today, Governor Hochul delivered her State of the State address to announce her priorities for New York in 2024. Her address was focused on the ways in which the state hopes to support and uplift working families, yet she failed to mention any plans to significantly support and integrate immigrant New Yorkers, including renewing her landmark investment in legal services funding for immigrant New Yorkers.

New York–Today, the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC), elected officials, education allies, asylum seeking families, and immigrant New Yorkers called to halt the displacement of asylum seekers from shelter mid-winter to navigate an unnecessary and burdensome bureaucratic process to receive a new shelter placement.

New York—Today, elected officials from New York City are standing united in their call for the White House to support immigrant communities by trading away our humanitarian values for foreign aid. Our elected representatives in Washington must reject the cynical attacks on asylum from extremist MAGA Republicans who are trying to use budget negotiations to extract harmful permanent changes to our immigration system and threatening a government shutdown.

New York, NY—Today, New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced a $700 million lawsuit against 17 charter bus companies for transporting asylum seekers from Texas to New York.

“For almost two years, Mayor Adams has treated the arrival of asylum seekers as an emergency, trying everything he can to dissuade asylum seekers from coming to New York rather than developing an efficient and thoughtful process to welcome them.

New York, NY—Last week, NYC Mayor Eric Adams issued an executive order that placed limits on how buses of asylum seekers being sent by Texas Governor Greg Abbott could arrive in New York City. Since issuing the order, buses have still arrived at Port Authority, to other parts of Manhattan, and increasingly in New Jersey.

New York, NY—Today, Mayor Eric Adams once again took issue with New York City’s sanctuary status during a TV interview, complaining that "we can’t even turn [asylum seekers] over to ICE."

New York, NY—Today, the United Federation of Teachers, joined by individual teachers, filed suit in Manhattan State Supreme Court to stop the Adams administration from cutting as much as $2 billion from city schools. The lawsuit charges that as the State increased education funding to the city's public schools, New York City illegally reduced its contribution to education.
