Biden’s COVID-19 Relief Package Must Include All Tax-Paying Immigrants and US Citizens

Washington, D.C.—A coalition of business, labor, faith and immigrant rights organizations are calling on the Biden administration, in a letter, to include nearly 8 million tax-paying immigrants in the proposed $1,400 stimulus payments. Trump included U.S. citizen spouses and U.S. citizen children in mixed immigrant status households, but did not include all immigrant taxpayers or all U.S. citizen children. We expect the Biden proposal to include all U.S. citizen children and all taxpayers in his proposal.

Immigrants are essential workers on the frontlines of combatting Covid-19. Including all tax-paying immigrants and U.S. citizen children in the proposed $1,400 stimulus payments would stimulate local economies across the country by more than $11 billion, strengthening our ability to recover and rebuild.

See below for coalition statement and read the letter here.

“Millions of immigrant taxpayers and their U.S. citizen family members have been waiting for over nine months without federal relief. Trump included U.S. citizen spouses and U.S. citizen children in mixed immigrant status households, but did not include all immigrant taxpayers or all U.S. citizen children. We expect the Biden proposal to include all U.S. citizen children and all taxpayers in his proposal. Including all ITIN holders will deliver an additional $11.2 billion to local economies across the nation, boosting our economic recovery.”
