No Safe Harbor Report, 2020

The New York Immigration Coalition, in partnership with Brooklyn Law School’s Safe Harbor Clinic and the Immigrant Advocates Response Collaborative, today released a new report entitled No Safe Harbor: The Landscape of Immigration Legal Services in New York (2020).

The report was authored by the New York Immigration Coalition, Brooklyn Law School, and the Immigrant Advocates Response Collaborative (I-ARC) and draws on detailed interviews and surveys to ascertain the core challenges facing legal service providers and immigrant New Yorkers seeking legal assistance.

Debunking Misconceptions About the New Public Charge Rule

New York, NY—Beginning Monday, February 24, 2020, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will implement changes to the public charge rule. These changes are a significant departure from how the regulation is currently applied. The threat of the rule change has already had a chilling effect on immigrant families — many of which include U.S. citizens — who are not applying for or are actively disenrolling from government programs for fear it could impact their ability to make changes to their immigration status.
