Summary of the Position

We are seeking a Political Engagement Associate to support our community outreach efforts, build relationships with local leaders, member organizations, and engage New Yorkers in the political process. The Political Engagement Associate will support the work of the Manager of Political Engagement, as well as work closely with our team to develop and implement outreach strategies, support building and updating tracking systems, support on-the-ground field work, and engage with voters and community members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Political Engagement team in the NYIC’s Advocacy Department and its campaigns through analysis, research, and logistical coordination.
  • Works with the Manager of Political Engagement on the NYIC’s local, statewide, and federal advocacy and legislative agendas.
  • Works with Manager of Political Engagement to track, update and systematize elected official contact information, support on key legislation, participation in NYIC events, etc.
  • Supports opportunities to bring new allies into the NYIC’s work including forming and managing strategic alliances geared towards advancing the NYIC’s federal, state, and city advocacy efforts.
  • Manages relationships with allies, partners, and members as campaigns evolve with the support of regional teams across New York State.
  • Supports the NYIC media strategy for political engagement (print, television, and emerging media).
  • Engage in rapid response efforts to urgent developments with tasks including mobilizing electeds, collecting quotes, etc.
  • Supports fundraising and grant reporting in conjunction with the NYIC’s Development Team.
  • Represent the NYIC at public and private events.
  • Work closely with other NYIC staff to integrate public engagement across programs and issue areas.
  • Support administrative tasks as needed and assist in day-to-day operations of NYIC ACTION.

Qualifications

  • Interest in civic engagement, community organizing, and working with immigrant communities in New York State.
  • At least 1-2 years of experience working in organizing and/or campaigns with a strong interest in immigrant rights.
  • Familiarity with New York State and City community-based immigrant organizations is highly desirable.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Strong organizational, verbal communication, writing and computer skills.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle multiple, complex tasks.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with diverse staff and community partners.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Google suite are required.
  • Fluency in additional languages is an asset.

Important facts to know about this opportunity:

  • This position is mostly on-site, with a requirement of being in the office 4 days per week and remote 1 day per week.
  • The NYIC staff continues to mask while in the office.
  • The NYIC has a staff-wide vaccine mandate. Staff must be fully vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination to HR before being onboarded.

Salary: $54,000**
