Immigrant Advocates Applaud NYC Council Package on CityFHEPS Housing Vouchers

New York, NY—Today, the NYC City Council passed its four-bill package to expand access to the CityFHEPS voucher program, including eliminating the 90-day waiting period.

Murad Awawdeh, Executive Director, New York Immigration Coalition:

“The CityPHEPS package advanced by the New York City Council is a critical piece of legislation that will bring low-income New Yorkers one step closer to being able to start building a future for themselves and their families. This package will mean that thousands of New Yorkers will be able to get off of the streets and out of shelters, while also mitigating the pressure from NYC’s shelter and affordability crisis. The package will help both long-term shelter residents and those at risk of entering the shelter system get on the road to creating independent and stable lives, all while saving taxpayer dollars. We commend NYC Council Speaker Adrienne Adams and Councilmembers Alaya, Sanchez and Cabán for passing these housing policies, which will have lasting positive impacts on New Yorker’s lives for years to come.”
