Senate’s Clean Budget Reconciliation Bill Protects Immigrant Communities, Advocates Demand House Pass Bill Swiftly

New York, NY—Today, the United States Senate passed a clean Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) without the inclusion of any anti-immigrant amendments. The New York Immigration Coalition applauds the Senate for protecting immigrant communities in this budget reconciliation bill, while demanding that the House of Representatives pass a clean bill without delay.

Murad Awawdeh, Executive Director, New York Immigration Coalition:

“Today’s passage of a clean Inflation Reduction Act in the Senate represents a clear victory for our immigrant communities. We commend Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats for defending the integrity of this critical legislation by not allowing anti-immigrant amendments to jeopardize its passage. Immigrants and refugees have been weaponized by the far-right for far too long—with the clean passage of this budget reconciliation bill, our leaders in the Senate have stood up for our communities and ensured this budget reconciliation bill is not recklessly derailed. Now, the House of Representatives must swiftly pass the same clean Inflation Reduction Act free from discriminatory anti-immigrant amendments!”
