New York, NY—This week, the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC), the nation’s largest coalition of immigrant rights organizations, launched an ad campaign calling on President-Elect Joe Biden, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, and Congress to lead the way in demanding the incoming administration “right the wrongs'' of the last four years and transform America’s broken immigration system. The new ad from the NYIC, is part of the national Freedom Together campaign, demanding President-elect Biden make good on his election promises and go even further by prioritizing and enacting bold immigration reforms. The NYIC has pledged to spend $1 million to ensure every single member of Congress in New York, with New York Senator Chuck Schumer at the helm, works to win an ambitious federal immigration reform agenda before more families are separated and more lives are torn apart.
The campaign calls for:
- Restoration of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program
- Repeal of the Muslim Ban
- Immediate Moratorium on Immigration Enforcement
- A Pathway to Citizenship for 11 Million American Immigrants
After the launch of the ad, Murad Awawdeh, Interim Co-Executive Director of the New York Immigration Coalition, issued the following statement:
“The blunt reality is that the immigrant vote played a key role in unseating an incumbent President for the first time in nearly 30 years. Here in New York, NYIC Action mobilized thousands of immigrant citizen New Yorkers—many of them first-time voters—to vote for Vice President Biden, Senator Harris, and other Democratic Congressional and State candidates because they believe immigration is good for New York and good for America.
“Now, as we prepare to swear in a new Democratic administration, we won’t be patient while families continue to be torn apart. To ensure that our new leadership prioritizes immigrant communities, we are launching a $1 million campaign with one goal: to ensure every single member of Congress in New York, with New York Senator Chuck Schumer leading the way, works to win immigration reform that will bring the justice and freedom—not only from Trump's racist policies but from our failed immigration system that has been broken for decades."
