Day After DHS Holds NYS Hostage to Anti-Immigrant Political Retribution, ICE Agents Shoot Unarmed Man in Face

New York, NY-On Thursday morning, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) shot an unarmed individual in an attempt to arrest an immigrant New Yorker outside his Brooklyn home—ICE did not have a judicial warrant to effectuate the arrest. This follows a sustained campaign by ICE to attack New York's policies to protect immigrants.

Following the news of the arrest and shooting, Steve Choi, Executive Director of the New York Immigration Coalition issued the following statement:

“Today, we saw the tragic human costs of Trump's obsession with New York and our protections for immigrants. An unarmed man is in the hospital, countless others put at risk of gun violence, and another person could be ripped from his community and family all because Trump has unleashed a reckless and dangerous ICE force in service of his re-election campaign. In what world is this an agency that keeps New Yorkers safe? Trump’s deportation machine has spent the last three years terrorizing communities, ripping apart families, and demonizing immigrants. This is just the latest tragic consequence of an agency that acts with impunity to carry out this administration’s anti-immigrant agenda.”
