NYIC Responds to Deportation of First DREAMer, Juan Manuel Montes

April 19th, 2017

In response to news reports, Steven Choi, Executive Director of the New York Immigration Coalition, released the following statement:

"It is shocking that the federal government is deporting DREAMers like Juan Manuel Montes; people who have legal permission to live in the United States under DACA. The Trump Administration’s vicious policies will make all Americans unsafe. Instead of spreading fear, we should be providing a comprehensive pathway to citizenship and support for DREAMers who remain excluded from tuition assistance in New York under Governor Cuomo's Excelsior Scholarship. This is not who we are as Americans, and this is not our New York."
