Position Overview
Within the Advocacy Department, the Political Engagement Associate will provide administrative support to the NYIC’s Advocacy Department by tracking and streamlining our outreach with elected officials, appointed officials, and strategic partners at all relevant levels. The Associate will support the work of the Political Engagement Manager , managing a complex and growing amount of data to help build, maintain and strengthen the organization’s political partnerships.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Track, schedule, and manage and occasionally participate in a complex list of meetings, fulfilling meeting requests, approved by the Political
- Engagement Manager, from the Advocacy and Policy Departments with legislators and appointed officials.
- Support Advocacy and Policy Departments in the planning and implementation of lobby efforts with responsibilities including, but not limited to, confirming meetings, providing lobby training to membership, and facilitating group meetings with elected officials.
- Engage in organizational rapid response to pertinent, urgent developments with responsibilities including, but not limited to, mobilizing elected and government officials, circulating draft press releases, and collecting quotes.
- Provide legislative and political landscape updates to the New York Immigration Coalition membership, partners and stakeholders as needed.
- Provide support in recruitment of affiliate organizations and membership.
- Support the management of administrative tasks as needed and assist in day-to-day operations of the Advocacy Department through Asana.
- Perform similar functions for affiliated organizations, including our 501(c)4 political arm, NYIC Action with responsibilities including, but not limited to, canvassing for endorsed candidates and attending fundraising events.
- This position regularly requires carrying and moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Qualifications
- At least 1-2 years of experience working in organizing, advocacy or campaign is preferred.
- Understanding of the legislative process and experience lobbying is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with New York State, New York City and immigrant serving community-based organizations is highly desirable.
- Strong project management and organizational skills required.
- Good judgment and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy environment, and manage multiple competing deadlines.
- Ability to work cooperatively with diverse staff and community partners.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Google suite are required.
- Fluency in additional languages is an asset
- Legally authorized to work in the US for any employer.
Salary: $55,620.00**
