New York, NY—Today, Mayor Eric Adams released his $115.1 billion FY26 Executive Budget.
Murad Awawdeh, President and CEO, New York Immigration Coalition:
“During an unprecedented emergency for immigrant New Yorkers, Mayor Adams’ budget falls far short of meeting their urgent needs. While our federal government continues to target immigrant New Yorkers, eliminating their legal status with little or no notice, detaining or disappearing them on trumped up charges, the need for legal services has vastly increased, yet the Mayor has decreased his investments in legal services.
“As we brace for empty shelves, impossibly high rents, and economic uncertainty, Mayor Adams’ ‘best budget ever’ excludes our immigrant neighbors and working families when they most need our support. A ‘best budget ever’ is a budget that invests in all. We call on the Mayor to expand access to support services such as CityFHEPS housing vouchers to all New Yorkers regardless of immigration status, to increase investments in Promise NYC (which would ensure safe and stable support for more children while parents work), and allocate additional funds for adult literacy to meet the needs of our newest New Yorkers. Investments such as these will enable all families to improve their economic prospects, more fully integrate into their communities and thrive.
“We urge the Mayor and City Council to continue to build on this budget to make good on the Mayor’s promise of ‘the Best Budget Ever’ for all New Yorkers. We deserve a budget that is inclusive of the needs of everyone who calls New York City home.”
