Immigrant NYers Applaud Sen. Schumer’s Calls to Halt Title 42

New York, NY—Today, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer joined Senator Bob Menendez, U.S. Representative Nanette Diaz Barragán, immigration experts, and children’s advocates, to demand that President Biden fully restore access to asylum and revoke Title 42. The New York Immigration Coalition proudly echoed this demand.

Murad Awawdeh, Executive Director, New York Immigration Coalition:

“The last administration invoked Title 42 as a cynical ploy to capitalize on the COVID-19 pandemic to continue its cruel assault on immigrants by any means necessary. As a result, America’s asylum system has been eviscerated and countless people fleeing danger have been wrongfully turned away without any means or recourse. President Biden entered office on a promise to implement a humane and fair asylum system, but that’s not possible if Title 42 remains in place. The New York Immigration Coalition proudly joins Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s call to end Title 42. We can no longer afford the myopic and backward immigration policies of the previous administration.”
