NYIC Condemns Administration’s Shameful Ongoing Practice of Separating Families At Southern Border

June 19th, 2018

NEW YORK, NY – The Trump administration’s decision to separate thousands of children from their parents at the southern border is the latest, and to date cruelest, step taken in its ongoing targeting of migrants fleeing violence seeking protection in the United States. The images and videos of children being held in jail-like conditions, stripped from their parents has rightfully caused outrage across the country and prompted the United Nations to issue a rebuke of the United States.

Steven Choi, Executive Director of the New York Immigration Coalition, issued the following statement:

“The Trump Administration is ripping children from their parents' arms, and keeping them in cages with only a foil sheet for warmth. If the administration won't right this heinous wrong, it's up to Congress to pass the Keep Families Together Act before they all wind up on trial at the Hague for crimes against humanity."
