New York, NY—The New York Immigration Coalition, in partnership with Brooklyn Law School’s Safe Harbor Clinic and the Immigrant Advocates Response Collaborative, today released a new report entitled No Safe Harbor: The Landscape of Immigration Legal Services in New York (2020). The report comes amid heightened enforcement efforts and an awareness of the challenges faced by immigrants navigating our complex systems without representation or language access.

New York, NY—Today, President Donald Trump announced an expansion of the travel ban to include Burma, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Nigeria, Sudan, and Tanzania. Immigrant visas were restricted for Kyrgyzstan, Burma, Eritrea, and Nigeria. Sudan and Tanzania have diversity visas suspended.

New York, NY—Yesterday, in a 5-4 vote the Supreme Court of the United States granted the Trump administration’s request to stay the previously issued federal injunction that blocked the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) public charge rule from going forward.

Report Provides Recommendations to Improve Access to Care for Immigrant Communities

New York, NY– The New York Immigration Coalition issued a new report today titled Just and Equitable Behavioral Health for Immigrant New Yorkers: A Policy Agenda.

New York, NY—Yesterday, The Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to bar most asylum seekers from everywhere other than Mexico from seeking refuge in the United States, while the legal fight around this policy plays out in the courts. The Supreme Court said the administration may enforce new rules that forbid asylum applications from those who have traveled through another country on their way to the United States without being denied asylum in that country.

“Medical Deferred Action” is Halted Without Formal Warning or Announcement
New York, NY–With little warning and no formal announcement, the Trump Administration has ended a program known as “medical deferred action.” Under this program, people were able to remain in the U.S. for two-year periods if they could prove extreme medical need.
