New York, NY—The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued an updated public charge rule today, which will take effect on December 23, 2022, ensuring that immigrants can access health-related benefits and other governmental services without risk to their immigration status.

The New York Immigration Coalition demands more substantial guidelines from the Biden administration on their suspension of Remain in Mexico, and that this policy be ended immediately.

New York, NY—Today, the United States Senate passed a clean Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) without the inclusion of any anti-immigrant amendments. The New York Immigration Coalition applauds the Senate for protecting immigrant communities in this budget reconciliation bill, while demanding that the House of Representatives pass a clean bill without delay.

New York, NY—Today, Governor Greg Abbott of Texas announced that he sent asylum seekers by bus to New York City. Since April 2022, Texas has sent over five thousand asylum seekers by bus to Washington, D.C., many of whom have continued their journey to New York City.

New York, NY—Yesterday, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York declined to provide relief to the plaintiffs in Batalla Vidal v. Mayorkas, which include nearly 100,000 first-time Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) applicants whose applications are in limbo and DACA recipients applying to renew their status after a year or more lapse.
