Location: Position is based in New York City with a requirement to work 4 days/ week in the office and may require regular travel to Mid-Hudson Valley, Albany, Buffalo and occasional travel to other parts of New York State.

Summary of the Position

This is a contract-funded position for a rapid-response initiative that the NYIC is undertaking to support vulnerable migrants and asylum-seekers throughout New York State. This position is funded through August 2026. The continuation of this position beyond the time frame stated is contingent upon available funding.

The Legal Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting our legal team by managing the application process from preparation to mailing. The ideal candidate will be responsible for printing, compiling, and tracking applications, as well as ensuring effective communication with program participants.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Application Preparation: Print and compile all necessary documents required for filing legal applications.
  • Mailing and File Management: Oversee the scanning, packaging, and mailing of applications to ensure timely submission. Create digital participant folders and profiles.
  • Tracking and Reporting: Monitor mailed applications, track their progress, and report statistics through appropriate channels.
  • Communication with Participants: Ensure that program participants receive copies of their applications along with tracking information to keep them informed throughout the process. Monitoring and triaging intake channels to facilitate appointments and scheduling.
  • Other administrative duties consistent with the responsibilities listed above.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a legal assistant or in a similar role is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and legal software applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Language fluency is strongly preferred in either Spanish, French, Haitian Creole, Russian, Arabic or Bengali.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US for any employer.

Salary: $57,289/year
