Position Overview

The Manager of Statewide Volunteer Programming will coordinate the NYIC’s Statewide Volunteer Management Program. In this capacity, the Manager will recruit, train, and manage NYIC Volunteers in support of the NYIC’s statewide programmatic and operational work with a current focus in New York City, the Capital Region and Western New York. This role is also tasked with gathering and analyzing volunteer data in our Salesforce platform for record-keeping purposes, as well as providing general support to the Membership & Programs departmental initiatives, events and projects relevant to the role.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and conduct online and in-person outreach strategies to recruit new volunteers.
  • Develop and facilitate orientations and coordinate relevant training for volunteers.
  • Update volunteer management manual, vetting processes and policies as needed.
  • Manage sign-up forms and communications to existing volunteers about upcoming volunteer engagement opportunities.
  • Collect, manage and analyze volunteer engagement, evaluation and feedback data on Salesforce.
  • Continue to build and manage the ongoing engagement of our existing Western New York, Capital Region and NYC volunteer bases.
  • Establish new regional volunteer bases in Long Island and the Hudson Valley to support local volunteer requests from staff.
  • Support the leadership development of our Regional Volunteer cohorts and connect them to appropriate engagement activities and resources within the NYIC.
  • Coordinate volunteers in rapid response actions/events (e.g., advocacy rallies, press conferences) when requested.
  • Assess and prioritize internal volunteer requests based on capacity and resources available at the moment of the requests.
  • Provide or assign onsite supervision of volunteers.
  • Train NYIC staff on Volunteer Management procedures, policies and supervision.
  • Plan volunteer appreciation parties and other volunteer recognition activities with our regional cohorts at least once a year.
  • Plan and execute for the NYIC’s volunteer long-term and immediate needs throughout the year and identify areas for improvement/innovation.
  • Provide general support to the NYIC’s Membership & Programs department programs and projects, as needed.
  • Support the Membership team in continuing to develop relationships with Member organizations and connect them to appropriate engagement activities and resources in the NYIC.
  • May need to occasionally lift, carry and move materials weighing 50 pounds or less.

Qualifications:

  • 3-4 years of professional experience in a combination of the following areas: volunteerism, public service, leadership development and program coordination.
  • Strong judgment and instincts for internal communications-related work and comfort engaging with stakeholders from different backgrounds.
  • Excellent research, writing, editing, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented with the ability to follow projects through to completion.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, persuasively and professionally
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite
  • Familiarity with data management platforms like Salesforce, project management tools such as Asana, Form Assembly and Lattice, and/or marketing/newsletter platforms like Mailchimp is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Spanish or another language spoken in immigrant communities in NYS is strongly preferred but not required.
  • This position will require working occasionally on weekends and evenings.
  • Occasional travel to events within New York City as well as our regional hubs in the Hudson Valley, Capital Region, Central NY, Western NY, and Long Island is expected.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S for any employer.

Annual Salary: $71,431**

**The NYIC has a transparent and equitable salary structure. Starting salaries for each position are set in advance with no room for negotiation.
