LIFE Project Report

Since 2018, Fifth Avenue Committee, LSA Family Health Service and Masa have, through the NYIC's LIFE Project, empowered immigrant families to enroll in NYC's Pre-K and 3K programs. Along the way they have identified effective strategies and common barriers.
The report outlines this work and finds that an overwhelming majority of immigrant families want to enroll their children in these programs and deeply value quality educational opportunities. However, concerns related to immigration status and complexities navigating the system are key challenges that families face. Trusted, tailored support is pivotal in addressing these challenges. The report recommends critical steps to create a sense of safety for immigrant families, institutionalize cultural and linguistic fluency and other key recommendations to empower equitable access to quality programs.
