NYIC Responds to Cuomo Assurance of State Medicaid Coverage for DACA Recipients Regardless of Federal Action

January 23rd, 2018

NEW YORK, NY - Today, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced that recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program will remain eligible for state-funded Medicaid, regardless of any federal changes to or termination of the program.

Steven Choi, Executive Director of the New York Immigration Coalition, issued the following statement:

“We applaud Governor Cuomo’s administration for affirming New York State’s commitment to DREAMers. In a time of relentless federal attacks on immigrant communities, it is heartening to see the Governor take a stand for an issue as important as health coverage. As we continue to fight for permanent protection of young immigrant New Yorkers, maintaining access to health insurance is a key step towards achieving equity and justice. We look forward to working with the administration in supporting community outreach and smooth implementation of this policy.”
