Today, President Donald J. Trump posted on Twitter anti-immigrant statements regarding terrorism and Diversity Visa program. In response, Steven Choi, Executive Director of the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC) stated the following:
“President Trump should be focused on funding anti-terrorism initiatives, which he has proposed to cut from his latest budget, rather than exploiting yesterday’s horrific tragedy in New York to pursue his anti-immigrant agenda.
Yesterday, a man driving a truck killed eight people and injured others. In response to increasing anti-Muslim sentiments after this incident, the New York Immigration Coalition Executive Director, Steve Choi, issued the following statement:
"First, the NYIC sends its condolences to the families and victims of this attack.
While the Trump administration tries (and fails) to ban certain Muslims from entering the US, the government is actively working at home to lock-up the immigrants already here.
In the last 9 months, ICE has arrested nearly 100,000 people suspected of being deportable from the United States: a 43% increase over the same period under Obama.
Today October 20th, 2017 the U.S. Court of Appeals in the Second Circuit of D.C heard arguments in Garza v. Hargan.
Camille Mackler, Director of Immigration Legal Policy, responded with the following statement:

NYIC and Partners Announce Lawsuit Challenging Government’s Failure to Disclose Information Regarding Border Patrol
The New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC) announced a suit today against the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for their failure to disclose records concerning U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) agents acting as interpreters for other law enforcement agencies.
The Trump Administration announced a proclamation Sunday to amend the existing Muslim ban with a wholesale ban on emigration and restricted travel from Iran, Libya, Syria, Somalia, and Yemen. The proclamation also restricts travel from three additional countries: Venezuela, Chad, and North Korea.
Yesterday, the Trump administration terminated Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Sudanese people. TPS is a designation given to nationals of countries experiencing humanitarian crises, such as environmental disasters or epidemics, which prevent nationals from returning safely.
