“Detention Outreach Project” continues to monitor cases as families still separated

NEW YORK, NY - While the Trump administration’s zero tolerance policy continues to separate migrant children from their parents, the Detention Outreach Project (DOP) has successfully screened 300 migrants who were uprooted from the southern border to the Albany County Jail.

At least 1,300 families continue to be separated
NEW YORK, NY - Today, on the court ordered deadline for the Trump administration to reunite the thousands of families they separated at the southern border, at least 1,300 families remain in limbo. Several cases have been reported of parents being deported without their children, while some have been told that the government is unable to locate their children entirely.

Judge Furman allows Census lawsuit to move forward

NEW YORK, NY - Today, Federal Judge Jesse Furman ruled against the Trump administration’s request to dismiss New York v. Department of Commerce, and will allow the lawsuit to move forward.

Department of Commerce requiring the Department of Commerce to turn over government files because the Trump administration had acted in bad faith, several documents were released.

NEW YORK, NY – Today, the Trump Administration announced an 18-month extension of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somalis living in the U.S. This decision impacts 250 people. Individuals from Somalia with TPS will be eligible to re-register for an extension of their status through March 17th, 2020.

Remain separated from families

NEW YORK, NY - Today, lawyers from the Detention Outreach Project, a collaboration between the New York Immigration Coalition, the Immigration Law Clinic at Albany Law School, and the Legal Project, provided updates on the more than 300 migrants relocated from the Southern border, and currently detained at the Albany County Jail.

NEW YORK, NY – On Monday, July 9, the Poughkeepsie Common Council unanimously voted to establish a municipal ID program. The program will allow all Poughkeepsie residents to access services, programs, and benefits, regardless of immigration status.
