New York, NY—Today, President Biden announced new actions that would support the ability of undocumented Americans to work and remain in the country with their families without fear of deportation while they pursue a pathway to legal status. Building off existing authorities, a process for “Parole in Place” will apply to undocumented spouses of United States citizens who have resided in the U.S. for at least ten years and meet other eligibility.

New York, NY—Today, President Biden signed an executive action limiting access to asylum at the U.S. southern border once the seven-day average of people crossing between ports of entry exceeds 2,500. This policy will go into effect immediately. The new measure will result in a temporary closure of the U.S. southern border to many people seeking safety, absent exceptional circumstances.

New York, NY—Today, the Justice Department announced a partnership with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to direct additional prosecutors and support staff to increase federal immigration-related prosecutions at the U.S. southern border. The goal of deploying additional Justice Department and DHS prosecutors and support staff to crucial border U.S. Attorneys’ Offices is to criminalize people exercising their right to ask for asylum.

New York—Today, the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC), elected officials, allies, asylum seekers and immigrant New Yorkers rallied and held a press conference at City Hall Park. 

On Monday, the City began large-scale implementation of the Right to Shelter settlement agreement, which means all new adult asylum seekers without minor children will be permanently evicted from shelters after 30 days for adults over 24 years and 60 days for adults 18-24 years, barring some exceptions.
