End ICE’s Brutality in NYC Immigration Courts

New York, NY—Today, a photojournalist was shoved to the ground by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at 26 Federal Plaza while they were documenting the arrest of individuals attending immigrant court hearings. 

This incident comes just days after another immigration officer was captured on video pushing a woman to the ground at the same location.

Death of Immigrant in Nassau County Jail Shows Need to End NYS 287(g) Agreements

New York, NY—On Thursday, a man died in detention in a Nassau County jail after being arrested by ICE. Nassau County contracts to lease jail cells to ICE, and Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman signed 287(g) agreements with ICE in February 2025. The 287(g) agreement deputizes the Nassau County Police Department and Nassau County Sheriff's Office for the purpose of federal immigration enforcement and detentions.

Trump’s DOJ Files Frivolous Lawsuit Against NYC Seeking to Undermine Local Governance

New York, NY—Today, the US Justice Department of Donald Trump filed a federal lawsuit in the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York challenging New York City’s sanctuary policies. The basis of the 37-page lawsuit is that New York’s local policies are “impeding the consultation and communication between federal and local law enforcement officials that is necessary for the United States to enforce the law and keep Americans safe.

Trump Administration Bars Undocumented Children from Head Start, Impacting 50,000 Kids

New York, NY—Yesterday, the Trump administration announced plans to restrict undocumented immigrants from enrolling in Head Start, the federally funded preschool program, as well as more than a dozen other programs. Other impacted programs include those focused on substance abuse, mental health, drug-treatment programs, and behavioral health programs  

The Trump administration issued a new interpretation of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (PRWORA). Under the interpretation—which differs from interpretations when the law was passed— programs intended for the good of the community are no longer exempted from rules that limit benefits eligibility to citizens and legal residents.

CityFHEPS Decision is a Victory for Low-Income New Yorkers

New York, NY—Today, a state appeals court sided with the New York City Council, ordering the city to implement a set of laws expanding the CityFHEPS housing voucher program. The package of legislation would support low-income New Yorkers by reducing the cost of utilities for voucher-holders and no longer requiring those applying for the housing voucher to have previously lived in a shelter.
