New York, NY—Yesterday, Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal, Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson, Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, and Queens Borough President Donovan Richards sent a letter to Governor Kathy Hochul, Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie. The letter urged the passage and enactment of the New York For All Act and Access to Representation Act.
Murad Awawdeh, President and CEO, New York Immigration Coalition:
“ICE is lawlessly terrorizing immigrant communities across the country and increasingly across New York State. New York City’s borough presidents are right to demand that Albany takes concrete and meaningful action to protect our neighbors from these attacks. The New York For All Act will ensure that local police and state agencies will not collude with ICE’s terror – formally or informally. The Access to Representation Act will ensure that our immigrant neighbors have legal representation when facing deportation in immigration court. We commend the Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens Borough Presidents for demanding the passage of this essential legislation, and look forward to Albany meeting this moment by passing and enacting it.”
