New York, NY—The Trump administration further broadened its expanded travel ban by imposing an indefinite “hold” on legal immigration processing for people from 20 additional countries that were added to its travel ban proclamation earlier this week.

New York, NY—The Trump administration issued a Proclamation that expands its prior travel ban to 39 countries and Palestine (Palestinian Authority travel document holders). The earlier travel ban, in June 2025, included 19 countries. As of January 1, 2026 seven countries and Palestine – Burkina Faso, Laos, Mali, Niger, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Syria, and Palestine (Palestinian Authority travel document holders)– face bars on entering the United States for anyone who does not currently hold a valid U.S. visa.

New York, NY—Today, it was reported that federal immigration officers entered New York City shelters on several different occasions and obtained resident information without presenting judicial warrants. These actions directly violate New York City’s sanctuary laws, which bar city staff from authorizing federal immigration officers to enter private areas of city property or access resident information without a judicial warrant.
