Advocates Demand Immediate Release of Newark Mayor Ras Baraka

New York, NY—Today, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement outside of the ICE Delaney Hall Detention Facility, a non-permitted and previously shuttered site that does not have appropriate conditions.

Rümeysa Öztürk Ordered to be Freed From ICE Detention, All of Trump’s Political Prisoners Must be Freed

New York, NY—Today, Tufts University student Rümeysa Öztürk will be released on bail from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention by Judge William Sessions of the United States District Court for the District of Vermont. Öztürk, who is in the United States from Turkey on a student visa, was abducted by masked federal agents on March 25 on a street in Somersville, Massachusetts.

Immigration Advocates Respond to NYS Budget

New York, NY—The New York State Legislature and Governor Hochul enacted a $254 billion budget for FY26. This includes $64.2 million for immigrant legal services, $50 million for the Housing Access Voucher Pilot Program, the continuation of the Empire State Child Tax Credit, and $2.3 million for language access.

Adams’ Policy Criminalizing Bikers Puts Immigrant NYers at Risk

New York, NY—The NYPD reportedly shifted its policy for how it penalizes certain low-level traffic offenses allegedly committed by riders of bicycles and e-bikes. This shift follows Mayor Adams’ new quality of life initiative, and criminalizes infractions that previously would have resulted in a traffic ticket – including riding in the wrong direction, running a red light, or not stopping at a stop sign.
