New York, NY—Today, Mohsen Mahdawi was released on bail from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention by Judge Geoffrey W. Crawford of the Federal District Court in Vermont. Mahdawi – originally from the West Bank, a green card holder and legal permanent resident of the U.S. for 10 years, and a student activist at Columbia University – was arrested at an April 14 citizenship appointment.

New York, NY—Today, President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing Attorney General Pam Bondi and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem to identify cities and states with “sanctuary jurisdictions.” Cities and states identified on the list could face cuts in federal funding and possible criminal and civil suits for democratically enacted laws that promote public safety.

In its first 100 days, in a "flood the zone approach,” the Trump Administration has issued over 25 presidential orders (executive orders, presidential memoranda and presidential proclamations) and taken hundreds of policy actions on immigration. New York, NY—Today, New York City Mayor Eric Adams refused to condemn the disappearance of Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, instead alluding to “gangs” and “bad people” as a justification. The Supreme Court of the United States, in a 9-0 decision, reaffirmed a lower court’s order that Abrego Garcia be returned to the U.S. from El Salvador.

New York, NY—Today, a United States federal appeals court rejected the Trump administration’s request for a stay of a district court order blocking the termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for more than 350,000 Venezuelans, preventing thousands of New Yorkers from facing deportation and the loss of work authorization.

New York, NY—Yesterday, Columbia University student activist Mohsen Mahdawi was detained by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) at a citizenship appointment in Colchester, Vermont. Mahdawi has a green card and has lived in the United States for over a decade.

New York, NY—Today, an immigration judge in Louisiana ruled that Mahmoud Khalil is eligible to be deported. His removal proceedings will move forward in Louisiana, while a separate case will move forward in New Jersey examining the legality and constitutionality of his detention.
