New York, NY—Yesterday, alongside nearly 300 organizations, the New York Immigration Coalition signed on to a letter warning Senate Democrats to reject all harmful immigration-related amendments in the budget reconciliation bill expected this weekend. The New York Immigration Coalition calls for the passage of a clean Inflation Reduction Act without the inclusion of any anti-immigrant amendments.

While our country needs meaningful action from our representatives in Washington, conservative leaders are weaponizing the budget reconciliation bill to score cheap political points. With real lives on the line, Republicans in Congress continue to treat immigrant communities as political game pieces—this is morally reprehensible, and Senate Democrats cannot entertain these obvious and cruel ploys. The Senate must pass a clean Inflation Reduction Act devoid of all harmful immigration amendments that only endanger people seeking freedom and safety in our country.”
