Immigrant Advocates Applaud House Leadership’s Stimulus Bill for Protecting Health of Every Family, Regardless of Status, During Crisis

Washington, DC-Yesterday, the House leadership led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi introduced the Take Responsibility for Workers and Families Act. The Democrats' bill makes healthcare affordable and accessible; provides cash assistance to all families, as well as support to small businesses in need of direct grants or small business loans; and injects nearly $40 billion into schools and universities to stabilize funding; among other measures crucial to supporting the health and well-being of the country and every family, regardless of status.

In response to the House Democrats’ introduction of the The Take Responsibility for Workers and Families Act, Steve Choi, the Executive Director of the New York Immigration Coalition, issued the following statement:

“At a time when immigrants are on the front lines fighting back against America’s COVID pandemic, we applaud the House Democrats for introducing a sweeping proposal that provides health care and economic protections for everyone who calls America home. The House bill puts families first by providing desperately needed relief to small businesses, students burdened by debt; and both healthcare and economic support to all households, regardless of immigration status, who are struggling to make ends meet. The New York Immigration Coalition urges the Senate to not leave immigrant Americans out in the cold, and to also  prioritize all families to combat the crisis and safeguard America’s future.”
