DACA recipients can renew or reapply
NEW YORK, NY - Today, the Supreme Court of the United States rejected the Trump administration’s petition to bypass the usual Court of Appeals process, maintaining the current district court injunction to continue to accept renewal applications for DACA.
In response, Steven Choi, the Executive Director of the New York Immigration Coalition, released the following statement:
“This is a victory for DACA recipients, who have spent months in limbo. Nevertheless, we’re urging everyone who has had Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) to consult an attorney as you renew your status. This is still a band-aid for the bigger problem that remains: we need a clean DREAM act now so that DREAMers can continue to hold jobs, get an education, and grow up free from worry.”
Background
Anyone who has been DACAmented at any time can either renew or re-apply to the program. If your DACA expired before 9/5/16 or your grant was terminated at any point, then you must re-apply to the program showing that you meet all requirements.
If your DACA expired on or after 9/5/16 then you can renew. The NYIC urges everyone to consult an attorney and send in materials via mail with a method that is trackable.
