BREAKING: NYIC Responds to TRO on Trump's Muslim Ban
In response to breaking news that a federal judge has issued a temporary restraining order on the Trump administration's renewed ban on travel from Muslim majority nations, the New York Immigration Coalition Executive Director, Steve Choi, issued the following statement:
"A federal judge just stopped the Trump administration with a temporary restraining order on Muslim Ban 3.0 - confirming yet again, that it is un-American to discriminate against people based on race or religion. We will not make this country safer or greater by defying the founding principles on which it was built: liberty and justice for all."
Tomorrow, the NYIC together with the Women’s March, the ACLU, Indivisible, MoveOn.org and other organizations will rally in Washington D.C. to declare #NoMuslimBanEver. The NYIC has been leading the fight since January, when the first Executive Order came out, with the #NoBanJFK movement, and assisting travelers from over 20 countries and organizing hundreds of lawyers and volunteers. The protests at JFK sparked actions across the nation, including a rally held in Battery Park the next day, which drew over 30,000 people. In July, the NYIC was back out at JFK to monitor the situation and provide legal assistance if necessary.
